The Dillon County Educators Association-Retired met on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. with seven members and two guests in attendance.  In the absence of the president, vice president Anne Mallett presided extending a very warm welcome to all present.
Mrs. Mary Alice Lytch offered a very fitting prayer after which members and guests enjoyed a delightful meal prepared by the B and C Restaurant which hosts our meetings.
In the absence of the program chairman, Dale Hardaway introduced the speaker, Mrs. Dorothy Bethea, recently retired teacher in the program for Gifted and Talented students at Gordon Elementary, who presented a very informative program on the offering to Gifted and Talented students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Students are challenged and encouraged to think in new ways, become independent learners and excited about learning.  Many activities in such areas as archeology, electricity, and vocabulary.  “”Word to the wise, stockmarket, and mind challenging games are offered to the students.:  A question and answer period followed Mrs. Bethea’s remarks after which she was graciously thanked for her presentation.
In the absence of the secretary, Dale Hardaway read the minutes of the May meeting and gave the treasurer’s report.
Door prizes were presented after which the meeting was adjourned.
