Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at First Baptist Church (Dillon) followed by interment in Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.
Mr. Peacock was born in Marlboro County on May 24, 1924 a son of the late Minnie Clark Peacock and Roy Lee Peacock. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran (Pacific Theater, Okinawa). During basic training, Mr. Peacock distinguished himself as a marksman on the shooting range. Though he was born legally blind in his left eye, Mr. Peacock’s shooting abilities caused him to be redeployed from a casualty company to active military service and ultimately to Okinawa. He was a steel worker for Daniels Construction Company, an employee of Dixiana Mills (23 years), a commercial catfisherman, and a beloved vegetable farmer for the Dillon area. He was an avid outdoors man, and he loved boating, fishing, and hunting. He was also a skilled dog man — he raised and trained many noteworthy hounds over the years. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Adult I Men’s Sunday School Class.
Mr. Peacock is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Evelyn Hatcher Peacock, Dillon; two sons, Leon Peacock (Patty), Dillon, Jimmy Peacock (Rita), Dillon; a daughter, Ann Peacock McDaniel (Dennis), Dillon; grandchildren, Kristi Peacock Collins (Nash), Kim Peacock Herron (Lee), Laura Peacock, Bryan McDaniel, Jason McDaniel; and two great-grandchildren, Charlie Nash Collins and Kaden Lee Herron.
He is preceded in death by a son, Jackie Peacock; and a grandson, Marshall Peacock (Dillon); sisters, Mary Sue Hudson and Melvaria Ford; brothers, Marion Peacock, Gordon Peacock, Elwood Peacock, and Wilbur Peacock.
