The Pee Dee Chapter of the American Red Cross ends another busy year.
In light of tough economic times the chapter was able to meet the needs of over 850 individuals who suffered from disaster right here in the Pee Dee.  Disasters in the Pee Dee are prevalent because of the number of mobile homes and older homes that we have.  “People get very creative when trying to heat and cool their homes and it is not always a smart thing to do” stated Linda Boone-Smith Executive Director of the local chapter.
In addition the chapter responded to over 1000 military messages that needed to be delivered to loved ones serving abroad, provided emergency loans to 20 active duty personnel and was there for a family who needed travel expenses to say their final good bye to their loved one who gave it all for his country.
On Thursday the chapter recognized many of the volunteers that are responsible for outstanding services in the Pee Dee.  Anthony Hall of Florence was recognized for his dedicated service to the Armed Forces and Phil and Aretas Phillips from Chesterfield were recognized for outstanding DAT (Disaster Action Teams) response. Also James Leslie, Susan Redmond and Anthony Hall were recognized for their deployment to a national disaster during the Atlanta area floods.
In Health and Safety David Walden, Wanda Jones and Joe Marsh were recognized as outstanding instructors and Walt Borek for Authorized Provider of the Year.  In addition Ed Taylor and Tobi Aldofini received awards for their outstanding leadership.
The overall chapter Volunteer of the Year was Danagene Razick.  “Danagene is a true joy to work with.  She always comes in with a smile and word of encouragement.” said Boone-Smith
